Horsepacking Tips
Horsepacking in Yellowstone Park,
depending on the number of days, can be hard on you if you aren’t used to
it. The following tips will help you enjoy your trek:
- Learn to ride beforehand.
-
Arrive several days ahead and spend some time in the area to get
used to the altitude.
- Ask for information from your outfitter before the trip, including
what to bring along, expected weather, condition of trails.
Pack
the following:
1. Heavy-duty sunscreen–the ultraviolet rays
are particularly strong at higher
altitudes.
2. Chapstick.
3. Strong Insect repellent
4. Aspirin, band aids (for blisters), and
antibiotic ointment.
5. Good-fitting western boots and hiking boots
6. A wide-brimmed hat.

8. Gloves to prevent callouses on your hands
from the horse’s reins.
