Non-PC Digital Photo Viewing Comes to Consumers
By Bob Brooke

Remember the days when you came home from vacation and couldn’t wait to show your pictures or slides to your family and friends? Remember how everyone nodded their approval as the show went on and on? Remember, also, granddad and grandmom snoring loudly as you switched to the next slide? Well, those days are gone.

Now with the FlipAlbum® Recorder, you can give everyone a copy of your digital photo album to view on their own TV at their own pace whenever they wish. With this simple device, you can produce simple or more complicated picture shows and share them with others.

Unfortunately, sharing your photos requires that everyone to whom you give a FlipAlbum® CD own a FlipAlbum® Recorder. And at a somewhat steep price tag of $250US, it’s unlikely that every household will have one of these devices anytime soon.

Upload Digital Photos Directly From Media Card
But all is not lost. Another job the FlipAlbum® Recorder does quite well is to upload digital photos from a media card directly out of the camera, without using a computer. When digital cameras first appeared, most purchasers owned a computer and were somewhat computer literate. Not so today. As the price of digital cameras has come down, more and more people who don’t own a computer and can’t use one are buying them. This is causing a problem in sharing the photos.

FlipAlbum® Recorder is well suited for this purpose. For those who take numerous photos on vacation and run out of room on their memory card before the end of the trip, this device lets them transfer their photos from their digital camera’s memory card to a CD in the comfort of their hotel room, without using a computer. Weighing a little over a pound and about the size of a large paperback computer book, it works well as a substitute for a laptop when on a trip.

With the touch of a button, you can also create special CD albums that can be viewed on your PC or on your FlipAlbum® Recorder from the comfort of your den or living room.

The FlipAlbum® Recorder is also easy to use. Simply connect the compact CD burner to a TV and insert a compatible memory card with photos into a slot on the unit. Using the included remote control and CD, you can put your favorite pictures in a virtual page-flipping album, add background music and select design themes. These slide shows, which digitally mimic animated-book pages, turn as you move from one photograph to the next.

But the usefulness of the FlipAlbum® Recorder doesn’t stop with amateur digital slide shows. If you own a business, you can use it for presentations to clients instead of using a VCR. However, you will need to purchase FlipAlbum® Pro, special software for your PC, to create your presentation before showing it on the device.

Easy to Use Features
FlipAlbum® Recorder’s features are easy to use. With an easy-to-use television interface, it’s simple menus and push button operation make it as easy to use as a DVD player.

But FlipAlbum® Recorder’s greatest advantage is as a non-computer photo archiving and viewing device for professional and semi-professional photographers and journalists, who may wish to view their current day’s work on the larger screen of their hotel TV rather than the small LCD of their camera. It also allows them to upload their photos to CDs to store until they return home, giving them further use of their digital media cards. Another advantage of this device is that photo files burned into a CD with it will have to be resaved under a different file name before any editing can take place since once files are burned to a CD, they become read-only files. This prevents original files from being overwritten, a common problem with amateur digital photographers.

Unwanted images can be deleted easily from the TV view, but remain on the media card, and can be viewed in either full-screen or two-page album format.

As with all electronic devices, once the price comes down to a reasonable level, more and more people will want to own a FlipAlbum® Recorder, since it takes the mystery and hassle of sharing digital photos with the ones you love.

The FlipAlbum® Recorder is only available from www.flipalbum.com and for a limited time, you’ll also receive a free copy of FlipAlbum 6 Pro software (a $159.95 value) with your purchase.
